29th December – 5th January 2014
A holiday with a difference this time. Just after Christmas we headed up to Boambee Bay Resort, at Sawtell (just near Coffs Harbour) with my extended family. So that’s my sister, her husband and 3 kids, as well as my parents. The plan was to have a week here where we could all hang out together and enjoy a full family holiday!
The kids were very excited to spend some time with their cousins, and we were likewise looking forward to spending some time with my sister (Leanne) and her husband (Dave). They live in Darwin, so we don’t get to see them anywhere near as much as we would like.
Unfortunately our apartments weren’t grouped together as had been booked, however that didn’t work out too bad in the end.
Rach and I had a nice quiet trip up as Mum and Dad were kind enough to take the kids up for us. Rach’s parents needed to be dropped at the airport early in the morning on the 29th, and then we hooked up the camper (as we were planning to camp after Boambee), dropped it at a friends place at Port Macquarie (thanks again Jason) before arriving late in the day.
The next day was Lucas’s birthday – his choice of activity was to visit Dolphin Marine Magic, at Coffs Harbour. We all had a great time there and even managed to score a kiss from the locals…
We stocked up on some supplies on the way back to the resort before cracking out the birthday cake after dinner.
We had fantastic weather whilst we were here – I was able to sneak out for a few early morning rides which was great, and found a nice easy bit of single track to take Lucas on. The loop we did was just over 3km, and while it was hard work for him, he had a great time and is still talking about riding single track!
New Years Eve was a great time to hang out with our cousins, do some dancing and have a whole heap of fun!
We went for a drive on the beach – mostly to amuse Dave so he could test out the new Cruiser and also have a surf…
We spent heaps of time in the pool. The water was beautiful, particularly late at night once the kids had gone to bed!
We also got to know some of the locals!
The restaurant at the resort was an Indian – so of course we needed to test out the curry! Leanne, Dave, Rach and I had a night out while Mum and Dad looked after the kids. It was really nice to be able to spend some time together without kids and just chill. I’m pretty sure that we won the game of pool too!
All too soon, it was time for us all to head our different ways again. The Pears family were continuing north, while we were off to pick up the camper and head back down south for a spot of camping.
The kids were particularly sad to say goodbye to their cousins, but are happy to know that we are planning a trip to Darwin in 2015 to spend some time in the top end.
