Lake St Clair

6-8 September, 2013

Only two weeks after our “excitement” with the locals in Parkes, we were back in the camper again, this time heading to a new venue.  We were heading to Lake St Clair, north of Singleton.

I had previously been here on an MR2 Club drive, perhaps 10 years prior, and was looking forward to camping there this time. We were to meet Rob and Barb, who we had camped with last year at Burralow Creek. They had left early in the day, and were already set up by the time we arrived, sometime after 9pm. We also met Pete and Madeline and their 3 girls who are friends of Barbs and Rob.

My previous visit to Lake St Clair, in about 2003. The water level then was significantly lower than it is today.

Barbs had learnt from previous mistakes, and refrained from giving Rach any alcohol until we were set up. Fortunately we set up really quickly, and had the kids in bed and asleep so we could enjoy some quiet reflection before hitting the sack.

Sunset over the lake was beautiful

We had a great relaxing day on Saturday, hanging out in some beautiful weather before going for a ride with everyone along the dam wall.

This was also the first camping trip on which we’ve taken the latest addition to our family. Kudu – our Cockatiel joined us on the road trip, and loved hanging out with us at the camp site. He even had a little time out of the cage – however with a fair bit of other bird life around, we kept him in the cage most of the time for his own safety.

On Sunday, we just relaxed around the lake as the kids enjoyed splashing in the water. We left after lunch and had a leisurely drive back to Sydney.

Thanks to Rob, Barb, Pete and Madeline for an awesome weekend and great company.

Two more nights here and we’re at 129.
